Are you a committed and enthusiastic volunteer with relevant experience who wants to support a charity making a real difference to individuals and communities?
This is an opportunity to join a group of trustees of a well-regarded charity providing independent and high-quality mediation and conflict resolution services, in Hampshire, Dorset and beyond.
About NFS Mediation
Established in 1997, our services include community and workplace mediation, restorative justice, an innovative and highly successful anti-social behaviour (ASB) assessment service and a unique and life-changing hoarding resolution model using cognitive behavioural approaches. We support individuals, families and organisations to resolve disputes constructively, aiming to build stronger, safer, more cohesive communities. We are a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.
About the role
As a trustee you’ll be one of the people who share ultimate responsibility for governing the charity and directing how it is managed and run.
Duties include:
- Contributing, approving and monitoring our strategy and direction
- Overseeing our budget and financial position, reviewing and approving statements
- Making sure we comply with its governing document and the law, including required policies and procedures
- Supporting and challenging our CEO and staff where needed
- Identifying, monitoring and controlling risks to us and the contracted services
- Preparing for, attending and actively participate in meetings
Location: Hybrid, either home or the office in Southampton
Salary: Voluntary position, reasonable expenses can be reimbursed
Commitment: quarterly board meetings and preparation, AGM, ad hoc meetings and tasks, any additional responsibilities
About you
You’ll bring enthusiasm, energy and commitment to the role and our work. You’ll have good judgement and communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. You do not need previous trustee/board experience, but an interest in developing your leadership and governance skills. Experience/training in conflict resolution or working with vulnerable clients or with social housing is desirable but not essential. Experience in accounting or marketing would also be of interest.
