NFS Mediation your local mediation service based here in Southampton is about to become officially one of the largest mediation organisations in the UK. When it first started over 13 years ago, it just covered the New Forest, it now covers Southampton, Hampshire and beyond.
Its merger with North Hampshire Mediation Service based in Basingstoke is nothing new for employees of both organisations as they have been working closely in partnership together since 2009 but the final take over of North Hampshire Mediation Service as of April 2011 is an exciting milestone in mediation organisations. With the economic climate making life for many small businesses very difficult it is pleasing to see that a registered charity that receives no grants but self generates all its own income is expanding and developing.
NFS Mediation currently provides mediation assessment for Southampton City Council under contract, as well as similar mediation models for many other local housing providers. NFS now works with most Hampshire Housing organisations and is looking to develop this further in time and into counties surrounding Hampshire.
North Hampshire Mediation Service are grant funded by Downland Housing Association/Sentinel Housing Association and Sovereign Kingfisher to develop their work in the community through Mediation. Their work is in great demand as many more local organisations realise that mediation is not the expensive solution they thought it was and can be tailored to each organisations need. Stuart Sillett, CEO of NFS Mediation states ”As an organisation we believe in breaking down the myths, preciousness and assumptions associated with mediation and make it accessible, pragmatic and successful for both the participants and housing organisations.”
The ethos of NFS is one of providing a service that allows people to find mutually agreeable solutions to difficult situations, whether they are neighbours, employer/employee, in a care home or within a school.
